How it works?
When plugged into an AC outlet, the device uses three indicator lights (or a digital display on newer models) to detect common wiring errors. A printed key on the tester housing maps the light combination to specific wiring conditions:
- Correct / Safe: Indicates that Live/Phase, Neutral, and Ground/Earth are all connected properly.
- Open Ground: The outlet is not connected to a protective grounding wire, increasing shock risks for grounded appliances.
- Open Neutral: The return path is broken; devices plugged in will not receive power even if the live wire is energized.
- Open Live / Hot: No electrical voltage is reaching the outlet.
- Live / Neutral Reversed or Live / Ground Reversed: The conductors are cross-wired, which creates severe electrical hazards for connected equipment and users.
