CEM LA-1012 Cable Locator
A portable tool used to detect and trace the path of buried or hidden metallic cables, pipes, and wires.
It helps workers avoid accidentally hitting things when digging, find problems, and check where utility lines go without needing to dig.
It is ideal for tracing cables in walls and underground, locating fuses/breakers on final circuits and locating interruptions and short-circuits in cables.
The unit is supplied as a complete kit comprising of a transmitter and receiver .
- Transmitter– Connects to the target cable (directly, via a clamp, or inductively) and sends a specific alternating current signal along it.
- Receiver– Scans the ground above; detects the electromagnetic field radiated by the signal on the cable. The receiver provides audible tones and visual signal strength indicators to guide the user along the cable’s path.
Applications:
- Building & Construction – Prevent damaging underground power, telecom, CATV, or fiber-optic (with metallic tracer wire) cables.
- Utility maintenance– Locate breaks, bends, or splices.
- garden work , Landscaping & fencing– Avoid hidden lines when digging post holes.
- underfloor heating systems - accurate location of line breaks and the detection of faults in central heating systems
- Road & infrastructure projects– Map existing utility corridors.
Safety:
IEC61010-1 CAT III 300V
UL, CSA, and TÜV listed for maximum safety and global compliance
Building & construction
In construction, a cable locator isn’t just for safety—it’s essential for managing risks. Before pouring concrete, digging trenches, or drilling into walls, knowing where cables and pipes are can prevent serious problems.
From the very start of a project to the final touches, a cable locator is used throughout. It’s the only tool that helps workers detect hidden dangers underground or inside walls that they can’t see.
Garden work , Landscaping & fencing
Modern gardens often contain a surprising network of buried cables, pipes, and wires just inches below the surface.
Garden utilities are buried shallow (often just 2-6 inches deep). One accidental cut of a landscape lighting wire or irrigation control cable costs more than that in repair labor alone.
underfloor heating systems
It allows for the quick and accurate location of line breaks and the detection of faults in central heating systems, particularly in underfloor heating systems.
For underfloor heating systems, specifically those that use electric resistance heating cables or wet systems with metallic pipes. Since these components are buried beneath screed, tile, or wood, a locator allows you to "see" through the floor to find breaks, map layouts, or avoid damage
